Safety Begins with Teamwork

October is School Safety Month

This year's school safety month theme was created by Arabella George, a senior at Wapakoneta High School and Apollo Career Center in Auglaize County.

When asked about her design, she stated, “I designed this poster as a small testament to my younger self, I was picked on/bullied as a kid for a bunch of little things. The kids/teens that were supposed to be looking out for me, didn't. They watched me get picked on and let it slide, this poster is a promise to everyone in my life that if I see something that is less than kosher that I will stand up and speak up about it. No longer waiting by the sidelines seeing someone get hurt. I'm going to help them through it as I would have for myself. By not having someone or even myself speak up about the situation it took a huge toll on my mental health, I don't want to see anyone else go through that.”

Vaccine requirements for 7th & 12th graders

The state of Ohio requires all students entering the 7th grade to have the meningococcal vaccine (also known as MCV4, Menevo or Menactra) in addition to one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis).  Additionally, the state of Ohio requires all students entering the 12th grade to have a second dose of meningococcal vaccine (also known as MCV4, Menevo or Menactra).   If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required. Vaccination is the best way to protect someone from getting the disease.

You may obtain these vaccines from your child’s health care provider or through another community resource. For your convenience, Akron Children’s Hospital will be offering these vaccinations at Coventry High School in the Fall 2024 for students who at that time are still in need of their required immunization. More information to be provided when available.Students who do not provide documentation of these immunizations to the school this fall are subject to exclusion. If there are medical/religious or philosophical reasons your child cannot receive immunizations, please contact the school clinic for an Immunization Exemption Form.
